Clients and jobs
ExactSpent organizes work around clients and jobs. Use Current Jobs for active work and Clients for client records.
Create a client
Section titled “Create a client”- Open Clients. You can also press Ctrl+3.
- Select New Client.
- Enter the client name.
- Select Create.
ExactSpent adds the client to the list and selects the new record.
If the name already belongs to another client, ExactSpent keeps the dialog open and explains the conflict. If that client is archived, the message identifies it as archived.
Create a job for an existing client
Section titled “Create a job for an existing client”You can create a job from either Current Jobs or Clients.
- Select New Job.
- Enter the job name.
- Choose the client.
- Select Create.
When you start from a selected client or job, ExactSpent can use that context to preselect the client. Check the selected client before you create the job.
After creation, ExactSpent returns to Current Jobs and selects the new job.
Create the first client and job together
Section titled “Create the first client and job together”If there are no clients yet, New Job lets you enter both:
- the job name;
- the new client name.
Select Create to add both records together.
If clients already exist, choose New client… in the client list when you need a new client for the job. You can return to an existing client with Choose existing client.
If the new client name conflicts with an existing client, ExactSpent does not create a partial client/job pair.
Work with archived clients
Section titled “Work with archived clients”Open Clients and select Show archived to include archived records in the list.
A new job requires an active client. If the current context points to an archived client, ExactSpent shows a warning and offers Unarchive before you continue.
Useful shortcuts

- Ctrl+F — focus the client filter in Current Jobs.
